Im glad you didnt have problems twhittle, but it can happen. There are other people who have posted on this site who have removed their gravel and had ammonia spike without touching their filters, and these are established tanks with enough filtration. It could depend on the amount of gravel, and how much sorface area is available for BB, the stocking of the tank, etc. I would just be careful, thats all.
