Removing Silicone Sealant

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
yep. Just alternate between the razor blade and the rag w/ acetone. I found mineral spirits work well too. With both mineral spirits and acetone, make sure you clean the sin out of it before you re-seal it, as the silicone won't stick very well (oh and for the fishes sake).

I did this very thing about 2-3 days ago and worked great. (unfortunately I cracked the glass as I tried to move it to where I could clean it.

It does work I guess... Helps the silicone come off and leaves a burning chemical in my nose! lol

except there is still very little stuff on the sides but I guess I cant do anything about that

You want to keep the small sliver of sealant between the panes themselves, as it helps hold the tank together while you can replace the interior bead. As you put in the new bead, the silicone will fill in some of the gaps and small holes created from the original leak and any of the holes created with the razor blade.
