just wondering if anyone has had problems with this heater. I looked at my 350 litre brackish tank this morning to find my columbian cat shark looking lifeless at the bottom then realised the temp had fallen from 28c to 14 the light on the heater was on to indicate normal temp, rushed around and found a spare glass heater. Then i went to my lfs as i had only bought it 6 months ago, only to be told they have stoped making them due to problems, managed to get a 200watt in exchange and got a 100watt for 2/3s off because of price difference. All starting to return to normal with water changes to bring temp up slowly. Is this a problem anyone else has had with rena heaters????

I was attempting to get the smartheater 300w about a month ago, and couldn't find it anywhere because, as you mentioned, they stopped making them. I wasn't aware they stopped making them because they had issues. I ended up getting a Hydor Eth inline 300w heater instead, but have heard only good things about the smartheaters (which is why I was searching for one to begin with). You are better off with 2 heaters anyways just incase something ever happens again.

Do you have a Rena canister filter?

never heard of any problems with the rena 300 smartheaters :\ i like them.

I have allways heard good things about them and i dont know if they have stopped making tthem due to problems seems a bit over the top to stop production rather than fixing a fault, if there is a common one.

I believe they were discontinued due to lack of sales.

Mine just bit the dust today, after about a year. I bought it on sale at least, but it still kind of stinks. It's been warm here all week and I noticed it started blinking. I looked up what that meant - it blinks when the water is warmer than what it is set to, which was true at the time. I did a water change today and dumped some cold water in, knocking it down to 65 degrees. The heater kept blinking. Checked the heater and it was cold, just blinking. Turned the dial all the way up and all the way down and nothing, just blinking. Gripe....
