OK huge problem that needs some help from all you MFK'ers out there since RENA TECH SUPPORT ISNT ANSWERING THEIR PHONES :swear:

SO, I go to lfs and buy all the necessary components to change my rena filstar xp3... i follow the friggen DVD just to make sure I am doing everything by the book. I follow the creepy guy that is instructing you on the dvd to a T, wait the 2 mins, turn it on, aaaaaaaaaaaaandddd.... no spray bar activity... W.T.F... The water isnt making it up the tubing to get pushed thru the spray bar!!! I tried taking the spray bar out of the tank and putting it low to the ground and it started shooting water out of it. Not like it was backed up and fired like a gun or anything, but not a drizzle.

When I put my ear up against the canister unit, I can hear literally NO noise... That leads me to believe that there is either A.) the rena xp3 is the quietest filter on the face of the earth, or B.) the motor unit inside isnt working well/at all?

Has anyone else experienced this at all? I havent had the filter for more than 6 months. It should be working like a charm. w.t.f...

ASSISTANCE PLEASE! I dont want my water to be effected by this lack of filtration!

Thank you in advance for your responces :D

I would guess the motor might be bad.

When the spray bar was lowered could this have been from a siphon? Try it again unplugged and then plug it in to see a differance.

I have not used a Rena but on my canister the lever goes down to open the valves so water can flow.

The idea i said before is to see if the pump is working. Have the valve open bring the spray bar below the water level (like in a bucket or something) see water flowing then plug it in to see if more water flows.

Have toy tried taking the spray bar off maybe the pump is not working as well as it should and the spray bar is too much back pressure.

But should there at least be the slightest humming or SOMETHING some kind of noise coming from the canister? i hear not a single sound. The only sound in the room is my air pump for my airstones... What. The. Heck!

^^ Trying your idea now!

LOADING. . . . . . .

OK so wether the filter is on OR off, when the spray bar is lowered down to almost the level of the filter it shoots water out of it. I let it go into this large rubbermaid storage bin for a while then i try to quickly get it back up and into my tank, then it stops again.... nothing comming from the spray bar... What now! :( :( :(

that's just it siphoning. the impeller is stuck. pull the cover off, clean the impeller, put it back together, prime it and you should be fine.

I had to do the same thing when I set-up a new XP2. There was light coating on the impeller with I just assumed it was some type of packing grease or something not cleaned off after the assembly process.

Ihave a rena XP2, XP3, and an XP4. Yes do check the impeller, make sure the baskets are seated correctly, make sure the hoses aren't kinked or clogged, make sure your lever is in the down position, make sure the outlet you are using isnt off/blown/switched is off etc. With your ear against it you will hear something for sure.

Yeah im going to try to clean the impeller mechanism (that is the magnetic piece under the motor head correct?)

HOW FRUSTRATING! you spend soooo much money on someting and it doesnt work... I try to take great care with this piece of equipment because of that very fact and this is how it repays me lol.... argh!

Gotta get ready for work tho... I will check this out, then re-prime it, and see what happens...

will keep you all posted. THANKS so much for all the quick responses! just another reminder why I love everyone at MFK so much!
