i'm thinking about getting a rena filstar xp4 as a second filter to fx5
are they any good

I've read a lot of people saying that you're betting off getting an XP3 for the money.

ebay xp4 is dirt cheap , i love mine. It broke and rena sent me a new one.

Its advertised as having more flow (+100 gph) . Is this a result of the additional media slowing flow or what?

actual rated flow rate for the xp4 with media/tubing is 190gph, xp3's is 187 actual rated flow rate.


i do have an xp4 and it is a great filter, but i bought it when they first came out for a little over $100. i would not pay current asking price for this filter, or pretty much any can right now.

Very good can! Relieble for years (mune is 4 years old and still kickin') and very easy to handle.

I have one I got for 50 bucks. Its pretty good but the impeller went bad. It rattles and gets stuck. A new impeller is 50 bucks. I still have it but am not using it. Don't want to pay that much for a impeller. The intake and output parts are cheap plastic and break easily. It does filter well because of the no bypass.
