I would clean the filter about once every 2 weeks. As for the jack they are very territorial fish and the only way to reduce the chasing is to re-organize the tank and change the territories around. This is just a temp fix though. You usually have to remove the aggressive fish.

then thats what will happen i heard giving the jack a cave ot something to guard or something like that will help ever heard of that??

I just need help in knowing what way to properly set up my tank like where i should put everything to maximize filter quality, airation an heat.

I put the heater next to the intake pipe to spread the heated water around more efficiently does that sound like a good idea?

giving the jack a smaller area to protect will help unless the oscars get to close to that area as well. Give it try it might work. yes putting the heater next to the intake or filter outlet is preferred to disperse the warmed water and reduce hot spots

i also took out the filter media baskets an rearranged them man did it make adifference in flow rate i don't know what the pronlem was before with the way
i had the baskets sitsuated but i also added 3 more plants lowered th temp from 80 to 78 i heard warmer water increases aggresive fish to be meaner. the jack an oscars are doing better now an i'm only feeding every other day i think i was over feeding. an i put the intake in the middle of the tank an i'm not using the spray bar just the end so its more like a power head.
