Anybody use em? My heater busted so I'm in the market for a new one. Having the heater replace the intake tube is pretty appealing (both to reduce clutter, and to take the bright blue intake tube out and replace with a flat black heater...less visible)

I know I could also reduce clutter with a hydor eth, but overall I think I just like the idea of the smartheater. Just wondering if anybody here has experience with them.

(sorry this is a bit of a duplicate thread, just wanted to make a product specific thread before I make a purchase to get as much input as I can)

I have one on my XP4. Honestly I found it amazing that it allowed me to go from 2 heaters down to just that one. Because the rena shoots the heated wwater through out the tank it heats better IMHO. Totally happy with it.

How long have you had it? How exactly does it hook to the intake on the xp4?

Right now my intake is about 3-4 inches off the gravel, I think the heater will only come about halfway down the tank for the intake...does that matter at all? And getting the 300w model for a 65g tank wouldn't hurt anything correct?

I have a 200 W on my 125 so bigger is never a bad thing but you might be suprised at how efficient they are...

It hooks to your intake. So you remove the strainer and use those tubing spacers to give you the length you wish to have. So it can still sit where you have your strainer now should you wish. Totally up to you.

Ah cool.

I'm thinking 300 thinking forward to buying something between 125-180gal & moving the xp3 over to that...

Really though I guess once I buy that tank I'll be able to get an xp4 or a nice big eheim so its a moot point.

200w should do it then...if I don't want to use those blue spacers, it should be fine to have the intake closer to the middle of the tank?

edit: then again, its only a couple $ more for the 300w, so I might as well grab that for the extra length.

I would try to have it closer to the bottom so that it can suck up more debris. I have mine in the middle in my 125 but only since I have the FX5 on the other side sitting lower and I too did not want to use those blue spacers.

Though if I had needed to use them I would have sprayed them black to blend in and used em...

spray paint? Aquarium safe?

Sweet, solves that problem I guess.

I gotta run towards petco during lunch anyways so I'm gonna stop there & see if they have it, and there's a SW LFS across the street that I'll check...if they don't have anything for me then I'll go ahead and overnight it. I know 75 isn't too bad for any of my fish, but I also don't know what its getting to at night or how much colder is going to get over the next week.
