Rena xp or fluval 06?

Just curios to as which brand MFK owners prefer over the other? In terms of
-Reliability
-Quiet
-Efficiency (flow)
-Maintenance

Theres mixed reviews online that each brand may leak..Im comparing the Rena xp3 vs fluval 306. Or xp4 vs 406. Bio load seems similar, GPH differs a bit...
Either way I want to switch from HoBs to a canister now

X100000000000 hands down better then fluval. Fluvals break, alot of physical peices for mounting ect , rena has outstanding performance, fully customizable media trays, quiet, FAST EASY maintennce. I can unhook my xp4 from the tank clean it and have it primed and running in about 20 minutes.

Thats surprisingly fast...what do you have loaded in your trays? I believe the xp4 has 4 trays? Im thinking 2 sponges 2 bio media...

Also just noticed Aquatop CF falls under these price ranges as well..can anyone compare them to XPs?

I have a SunuSun which is basically the same as the Aquatop just rebadged. The Sunsun is bigger than any xp moves a ton of water and comes with a cheap internal UV. The intake and output pieces are pretty much junk, but they do fit the Rena xp parts so thats what I have installed on it. It seems to be decent enough although it's big, heavy and doesn't have any handles to grab for maintenance so it's a bit of a PITA to pull for cleaning. The XP's are easier to maintain and come with better quality parts, but don't have nearly the flow or volume for media that the AT(SunSun) has. I have all of my Rena's loaded with sponges in the first tray and polishing pads surrounding bio in all the rest.

I see. Id rather go with a quality protect than one that just has more flow but more likely to break apart...I can just add a powerhead for more flow
Are the polishing pads necessary? And im guessing the XPs dont come with the media already..

Bought a rena xp on sale from petsmart, leaked from where the cord extends out from the unit, exchanged, second one also leaked, returned it and bought a Cascade, Aquatop, and Fluval eventually all of them worked great no problems and never looked back at rena
 
Maybe thats why rena put them on sale... Usually if its to good to be true it usually is, rena does come with all media necessary but u will need more. I have filter sponges for mechanical in my first tray, next 2 trays are packed with pot scrubbes and the top tray has my bio chem zorb and filter floss
