I have just put together my rena xp3. i primed it water is flowing into the canister, i waited a few minutes to let canister fill up then plugged it in... nothing the water doesnt come back out into the second hose. any suggestions?

Yea, I actually had a hell of a time to get mine started. I just keep pouring water in the prime cap and plugging it then waiting... eventually it took off. good luck bud patience.

Check that you don't have any slack in the hoses. I had not cut enough off on my XP4 and that caused a similar problem.

Rena's are notorious for being tough to prime. Most of the time, they take off right away. Other times...not so much.

I just keep pouring water in the prime cap and plugging it then waiting... eventually it took off.

That's about all you can do.

That helps too :)

You'll get it, just keep pouring water into that tiny little funnel!

ok thanks. i just watched the video i seem to be doing everything right but i will go back and try it a few more times . thanks everyone

If your hoses are properly connected, aligned, and submerged it is a priming issue.

A tip to EASY prime a rena is to turn it off, and unlatch one of the latches. Then lift up on the motor housing on the unlatched corner. It will release the air in the canister, creating a siphon. This is an easy way to eliminate the air from the top of the canister. I get ZERO cavation after starting my canister up after filter maintainence!

Two things to remember:

1. There must be some water in the intake line for this to work.

2. If you do the unlatch trick, as the water fills up, and pushed the air out of the canister, water can and WILL leak out when the last bit of air is gone! It will be ok, just be fast!

I know this is common sense, but make sure the valve is open (inline) on the spray bar, and there are no gaps/loose joints or fittings that could suck air.

If you are using the rena smart heater and the OLDSCHOOL intake U pipe, it will NOT fit right. It will not fully insert into the heater and could suck air in due to the height placement.
