A member from a different thread has stated that the RIO 2100 impeller can be used to upgrade the impellers in the Rena XP3 or XP4. Does anyone have any experience/data of this upgrade?
The XP3 is rated at 350 gph
The XP4 is rated at 450 gph
The Rio 2100 powerhead is rated at 692 gph
I own two XP3's and one XP4. Here is my experience between the two:
I had my XP4 filled with matrix, ceramic rings, and coarse sponges running on my 375g. The return was plumbed to a flow rate meter and a uv unit. The tank is 4ft tall so the return head is about 4.5 feet. Anyways, the flow output on the XP4 measured at 150-160gph.
Yesterday, I swapped the XP4 for an XP3 (Filled with the exact same media). The flow measures at just over 100gph.
I get that the head height is affecting the flow but I get a relative measure between the two filters. I am willing to install a Rio 2100 impeller in the filters and report the flow rate increase is anyone can verify that it is indeed compatible with the Rena motor housing.
