A member from a different thread has stated that the RIO 2100 impeller can be used to upgrade the impellers in the Rena XP3 or XP4. Does anyone have any experience/data of this upgrade?

The XP3 is rated at 350 gph
The XP4 is rated at 450 gph
The Rio 2100 powerhead is rated at 692 gph

I own two XP3's and one XP4. Here is my experience between the two:

I had my XP4 filled with matrix, ceramic rings, and coarse sponges running on my 375g. The return was plumbed to a flow rate meter and a uv unit. The tank is 4ft tall so the return head is about 4.5 feet. Anyways, the flow output on the XP4 measured at 150-160gph.

Yesterday, I swapped the XP4 for an XP3 (Filled with the exact same media). The flow measures at just over 100gph.

I get that the head height is affecting the flow but I get a relative measure between the two filters. I am willing to install a Rio 2100 impeller in the filters and report the flow rate increase is anyone can verify that it is indeed compatible with the Rena motor housing.:popcorn::popcorn::popcorn::popcorn:

Id love to find out if this would work as I have a supply of old XP1,XP2,XP3 motor assemblies laying around.. ???? Hmmn got me thinking now..

i have a XP3, i also have 2 rio pumps, the 1700 and the 2500, when i have the time ill try and see what happens with switching impeller into the XP3

come on someone do this and post. i hate my xp3 flow rate

i don't know about the impellers but head does not affect canister filters. the siphon effect cancels out any head loss from a closed loop system.

head would only be how high your return is above your water line.

i do know that you can put an xp4 impeller in an xp3 for a boost. they have the some motors just different shaped impellers.
