I have an XP3 as well. I must agree with the Lego look, especially the intake pipe. The baby blue looks so cheap. What kind of spray paint is safe for this use?

I was lucky enough to have a spare Eheim upgraded spraybar kit when I got my xp3 so much better . I agree the stock spray bar is crap but the filter is cool
krylon fusion is suposedly safe
also you could use bark(foam or natural) or spray foam covered in sand or painted and hide the intake behind it like a back ground but more like single trees if you can understand what i mean
then you could always do up a quick pre filter if you go with the tree style "background"
