Well, I sort of feel that way about my 125. I was considering adding either a sponge filter, aquaclear 110, or even something somewhat crummy like a fluval 405 on the 125 and leaving the penguin 350 on a 55. The 55 will be very lightly stocked.

Thanks for the input, and I genuinely do agree, and this is why I asked. I want the best for my fish, not half-assed poopwater. Plus, I get an extraordinary discount at work. The xp4 cost me 145 dollars. 4 Liters of prime costs somewhere around 54 dollars.

Thanks again!

Id keep the xp3 and xp 4 on the 125.. since the 55 will be lightly stocked look on craigslist for an emp 400.. AC 110 are nice however Big Als has emp 400 for 29-30 bucks after rebate..:headbang2

just change your impeller get more flow with the rio 2100 impeller

South15, I too am interested in your statement. Most flow rates that I have personal knowledge of are more a function of motor rate and orifice sizing, chamber sizes, bends in piping etc. While impellers do play a part it is usually already pretty maxed out by the original design IMO.

And if you think about it, if the manufacturer could increase the flow rating of a specific model just by changing the impeller, wouldn't they jump at the chance to further inflate their already optimistic flow rate numbers and in doing so charge more for their product?

Do you have any actual flow numbers or sources to site? I'm not trying to be a jerk here, just want as many facts as I can get vs. anecdotal opinions.

I myself have two XP3's and would love better flow rates. I'd jump at the chance to increase mine at such little cost.

TO OP: Sorry for the previous derail. I do agree with the other members that a single XP3 or XP4 isn't enough filtration for those tanks. I run an XP3 and AC110 on a 65g. Also, these filters do tend to clog up so you run the risk of ammonia and nitrite spikes when these are the only filter on your tank when they clog. You should add a hob or additional canister to your existing setups.

TO Meathook and South15: I am going to open a new thread about the impeller upgrade possibility in the same forum. Please join:)
