So i'm looking for renter's insurance. i talked to progressive since i have my auto policy with them. i can get about $40k of coverage for about $250 a year. i asked about fish tanks and she said the tanks, equipment, and possible water damage is covered, but not the fish themselves in the event of tank failure or vandalism.

are there any insurance companies out there that actually insure the fish in your tanks, and not just the fish tanks themselves?

Wish I had an answer for you. My building requires renters insurance...a good thing considering I was lucky...I was here at 8am when my 100gal burst. I could not have imagined the damage that would have been done if I were not here. It would suck to lose the fish too, but ruining what you own and that of others could be a lot worse. Keep us posted what you find out as thats pretty interesting.
Hell, I worked for a corp that specifically insures plants haha someone must do animals/fish

wow thats crazy! a tank bust would really suck. but since i have my 400g in the garage, im not too worried about water damage. but i am worried about the tank itself and the fish. even if it means getting a seperate policy thru a different carrier just for livestock

Yeah....well im sure you could find something. Like I aaid, theres insurance for everything..if you are serious and cannot find anything, shoot me a PM.

i would check with Li, with the amount that some of his fish cost he must have at least looked into insuring them

none that ive ever heard of.. not for a living fish anyway.. most you can hope for is coverage for the damage it may do if it fails.. when i checked into this i was told the only way i could get the tank itself covered if i had the tank/stand/floor installed by professionals and even then it was iffy..

Really good idea, I would think if anyone knows he does. He owns some of the most expensive fish I've seen on this site.

I would double check with progressive. I was worried about water damage to my house. I called 5 insurance companies and none would cover the water damage if the tank bust. Not even if I bought Flood and Umbrella insurance. Progressive was one of the people I called. I would get it in writing, better to be safe then sorry. If you do get it in writing I will be switching insurance.

Good luck.

As far as live stock, you might try talking to a zoo about their insurance or a farmer.

ING insurance does it for any pet in Canada. Its assessed value and doesn't cover natural death or accidental by hands of the owner.

For a $3k asian aro the premium was $200 a year.
