I don't envy you one bit lol! My hands are full enough with two dogs (pittbull/ boxer mix and a lab/bordercollie mix), one small parrot and a wife:D . Not too mention fish, turtles and a tegu.
 
They usually need to be replaced about every 6 months.

This does apply to the florescent bulbs with the mercury coating on the interior of the bulb, however, I am not sure if the 6 month rule applies to the ballasted bulbs or not. If I'm not mistaken, ballasted bulbs put out uvb so long as it turns on. I could be wrong, though.
 
I THINK ZooMed claims their Powersun bulbs to be good for a year, I'll check when I go home.
