Thanks for posting. Will be interesting to see results with the "meat pie" formula with large fish. I would think a lot of it would scatter all over the tank once they hit it. Even if you turn your filters off during feeding (which is a pain with my 225 that has a sump), it's still in the tank. Unless you have some smaller fish or bottom dwellers to clean it up(usually not possible with really aggressive species), that's going to really add to your bioload.

A lot of people feed their goldfish gel foods. It might be worth a try with fry of any kind. I'd be really curious an excited if my pea puffers would eat something like this though...

I too am curious how it will fair with big piscivore's. I did not have these types of fish in my mind when I set out to make my formulas and as many here have already pointed out, pellets already work very well for these types of fish. These fish might "enjoy" ripping into a bug chunk of gel, but as you say, it might make a big mess without a cleanup crew. Bite size chunks might work out quite well..... but then it comes down to cost. I will be the first to admit my stuff is expensive. It isn't because I am greedy, it is because of the cost of the raw materials I use. As a staple for big fish..... probably not. As a breeding conditioner or occasional treat, you tell me!

I'm itching to try the meatpie formula with ebjd fry and other ca fry's. My schedule doesn't allow me to feed my fish at regular intervals so this gel food is a godsend when dealing with consistence feedings. I'm not experienced with live bbs and do not wish to deal with having to hatch them so this will hopefully resolve my issue with having to feed live foods to picky eaters along with keeping my tanks cleaner when compared to feeding powered fry food. I can't wait to try this out on my next batch.

really dont think this will be an appropriate food for larger cichlids but who cares and that seems to be the main problem here. the applications in no very low maintenence graze feeding for smaller cichlids or fry could make drastic improvements in growing out fish and thats where i see this food excelling as it looks like we can just put it in the water and fish will constantly be able feed throughout the day even when your not present. im currently in the learning process of breeding and raising fry and will for sure look into this product in that use. also i see this working well for geos or other smaller fish who are phisically built to feed off the bottom and apistos and other dwarf cichlids. also i like that allen and msjinkzd have come on here not to defend the product but to merely state the facts which is something i respect. as much great info as rd provides if the thread isnt about supporting nls it seems like he always seems to have a problem with it which is questionable at best even though he does have "facts". if you have large cichlids and dont wanna use this then dont plain and simple. they make loads of pellets that will work great and im sure rd can recommend some very nice ones for you

As previously stated;
I've supported every type & manner of food on the market while on MFK, including assisting those who prefer to feed lower cost farm feed, to those who prefer to feed frozen & fresh, in the past including the OP of this discussion.

Do I need to provide direct links to all of those various comments, and past discussions?

Sheesh ......

I honestly don't care what people on this site feed their fish, if anyone feels that gel food has an advantage over feeding pellet food, then by all means fly at it. Been there, done that, as well as pretty much every other form of feeding a fish that one can think of.

Carry on .........
