Replace top frame?

I picked up a 125g tank cheap this week with a split in the corner. I saw rallysman's how to on fixing his and will do it this way if I cant replace the frame.

But I was wondering if anyone has tried putting a new top frame on?Or would be willing to measure the glass thickness on a brand new aga tank?I contacted aga and got a terse reply that the glass thickness has changed and the new frames wont fit older tanks.They wouldnt even dignify my question about 55g frames with a reply.I found an online dealer that sells frames and was wondering if aga was full of $%*t or what.Id like the newer frame easier to make tops for,and looks stronger.
 
If you can find the new frame that would be the way to go, but if its the older style like mine im not sure if you'll find one that will fit.
I just had someone hold the gap closed, marked the holes, drilled pilot holes on one side of the bracket, then drilled the holes on the other side on the outside of the mark so it would draw it up tighter when the screw centered in the bracket. So far so good, Its been working great:)
 
If you wanna try putting a new top frame on, Its really a matter of getting the old one off (Id try doing it in pieces) an take care at the Seams. a LFS can prolly order you a tank frame or you can try Glasscages.com
 
I have a source for the frame and know how to disassemble a tank,Im just wondering if there is any truth to the new frames not fitting the old tanks.Has anyone tried or actually replaced the frame on a 125g tank?Or if someone knows the glass thickness on a bn aga tank that would help.

Even if the new tank frame is to Small or to big, The only Spots that you really need to worry bout is the corners an Middle (if it needs a center brace) so you could just cut the new tank frame(if its to big) an use what youd need for the corners an center brace (if your tank requires it).
 
:confused: cut up the frame? that would defeat the purpose of the frame.
I think the main issue is the thickness of the glass.If there was a store near me with a new aga 125 in stock id just go measure but there isnt

Im not sure if that info that the thickness has never changed. My 100g with no center brace has a thicker glass than my newer 125. My 125 isnt the newest one because it only has a center brace. The new ones have two braces. I can measure it tomorrow if you want me to.
