I really hate to suggest anything with out seeing what your dealing with. Your description dose not sound real bad but I would feel better with pictures. Post some here or pm.

Don't do the metal plate idea,

Sweet! We finally got the beast into my apartment. Funkskunk and I did it ourselves, but I'm pretty sure a hernia will make itself known. I know some of you guys have tanks bigger than this, but in a 700 square foot apt. with 4 tanks in it already, it looks huge! Construction and set-up's going to be a pretty long process, seeing how I'm a school teacher with a fiance that lives 2 hours away, so I spend a lot of my money on gas, so any money-saving techniques would be great! I'm thinking about using 1/2" plate glass for the replacement bottom, with 1 overflow hole on each end, a stand constructed from many 2x4's, and a 45 gallon rubbermaid container for my sump. I'm moving in 7 months, so I don't want to go too ornate with the sump until I settle into my new home, then I'll make it nice. Any more ideas? You guys are great!

Yeah - borrow that camera from work!!! :mwave:

I'll see if I can get my girl's digital this week. After pricing glass at several places, I've decided to get a sheet of 1/4" plate glass and set it on top of the cracked piece. Under the cracked piece I'm going to put a piece of plywood that will sit flush with whatever surface the tank sits on. That will reduce any stress on the bottom. This month the glass, next month, the stand, then the sump. WOO HOO

Hmmm...Funkskunk doesn't like the idea. Even 1/2" inch plate is expensive. I can 1/4" for $57/sheet. Do you think it would work to get 2 1/4" sheets together?

If your friend with the metal has a metal lath he can make a hole saw to cut thru the non-tempered glass, never had enough guts to try it on tempered. For your holes in the glass that you're not going to use, get threaded bulkhead fittings then just thread in a plug. If the hole are the right size you can save big bucks by using pvc or cpvc pipe fittings.

excellent idea :D He does have a lathe. It's just a 2 hour trip tp Charlotte and I just sold my truck :( I'm sure we can find a way to get it down there once I get the glass. Thanks dutch!

I found a place to get me 1/2" 72x24 glass for $108! WOO HOO!!! 225G for under $200. Not too shabby! :woot:

Jcashion - ITS A 220 gallon!! :hitting:

another question for the experts of MFK .....
Where should we drill the holes for the overflows, how big and how many? thanks

OW OW OW OW OW OW OW. Dude, don't hit me with the sign, I'm giving you the 30G, ok?
