I have 3 fx5s on my 220 tank. Was thinking of buying a eheim 2180 to replace one of my fx5. I like the idea of having more bio media in the 2180 and being able to take out the heaters. Thinking of doing this because i am tired of fighting my 1 fx5 with microbubbles. I will put the fx5 i remove on my 65 growout tank. Think it is a good idea or am i :screwy:

Id stick with the eheim classic. Get a 2262 (used if money is tight) and call it a day. 5 gallon bucket of bio media with a 900gph pump. You'll thank me later lol

Eheim should send me a check as I promote their stuff all the time..... on the other hand I have no experience with the non-classic filters. I run an inline hydor heater on mine to keep the heater out of the tank

3 fx5s (Overkill) on a 220 and sick of microbubbles ?

1. setup your fx5's properly and microbubbles won't happen unless your filter is clogged up and time to clean !

2. Don't over stock your tank and try to compensate with filtration !

3. Thinking about going to an eheim is taking a step backwards ! My experience in over 20 years of using eheim products, they make great pumps, and the old filters were pretty solid, pitty about the rest of the filters especially the ones released in the last 10 years or so.

4. If you want less maintenance and somewhere for your heater then a sump set up would be more efficient and hold way more bio than any canister ? You could eliminate 2 of your fx5's off your setup that way.

Hard to argue with the common sense rhodes_96 has posted. But hey it's your money.

but like what was mentioned above a sump would be best if thats the case... im sure ya can find a 55-90gal tank and make it into your own custom sump for ALOT less then any canister cost... bio media use 1$ store pot scrubbies they work great in a sump

1.Could you enlighten me on how i can setup the fx5 properly. I have 3 and 1 constantly has microbubbles, i have cleaned it and tried different media and it still gets the same result.

2. Is my tank overstocked? I have three 8" cichla, one 6" oscar, and a 8" motoro ray.

3. So would a classic be the way to go?

4. Not worried about maintence and a sump is not going to happen on this tank it is not drilled, and i dont understand them.
