Reptile Keepers Have It Made

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Seems to me there isna reptile show here in January and they usually have baby tegus. So my guess is its breeding season now. I had a black and white when I was young. Super chill lizard. Big though, mine was about 3.5' total pretty hefty too.

I want to wait till I get the house for it all built and all that.
Them may be from a pairing that came out late from last year's brumation or some such.
Talking with Underground they do have some of this year's Tegu's in still but not a Argaitine black and white male. I want a male so I won't over the 20years or so it's alive run into some kind of egg impaction issue. Also goto love the chubby cheeks the males get!

While your at it try and breed some snails and such for food, bet the teg would appreciate that

When it's closer to time for him to come home I was going to start a crickets colony and a Dubai roaches one. And theb both Tegu and fish can eat them. What else you gonna do with that 4x8 space on top on the enclosure right.

If you setup a basking spot in your living or something couldn't you just let a Tegu wander around the house like a dog?

From what I have watched, read a lot of people do both. And let the Tegu decide most of the time. Even with a really tame pet I can see times when the enclosure would still be needed. Out of town and having a friend/relative take care of it. House full of guest. They brumate so you still need the enclosure for them to sleep in for six months.

You can. You have to remember that reptiles have reptile brain, while some are exceedingly intelligent sometimes rivaling cats and dogs and some people its still more primal. They just dont understand the same way mammals do. And large monitor type lizards are dangerous, regardless of how tame it is **** can hit the fan in a quick second.
My argus monitors were very tame and very smart. Think raptors from Jurassic park. I had to rebuild their enclosure multiple times because they could get out. Lucky they were in a room without any real way to escape. The door handle was to much for them to turn. It didnt stop them from trying though the handle inside the room was all scratched up. They got into the cricket box and ate all the crickets and my anole tank and ate the anoles too. While out in the room they were super aggressive. If I took them out of the enclosure everything was fine super friendly. Trust me they kicked my but a couple times when I walked in on them after getting loose.
