Someone had donated this fish to my job and it was in the absolutely awful condition, I’ve had him in quarantine for a while and recently put him into my main tank, his body seems very scarred and he’s definitely been through the ringer, but I can’t put my finger on what this fish is. I get vibes of Jaguar, Cuban, and Jack Dempsey from it

Almost looks African...
I think you are about right. Spots like that have to come from jag or Cuban, has the mouth of a jack. Maybe carpintis for the blue?
I’m actually curious to see how he grows up, keep us updated.

I’m curious as to what makes both of you think African Cichlid?

Not that this helps but Apparently the guy who brought it in to us what’s keeping it in a 36 gallon tank with a pair of Jack Dempsey’s that were about 8 inches at 6 inches, texas cichlid about that size, a red devil about that size, and a green terror about that size, and this guy is maybe like 3 inches most. Not sure how the hell you put all those fish into that tiny of a tank at those sizes, but it wouldn’t be the craziest thing I’ve seen someone say they do

Something about the pattern, color, and finnage just seem African.

I think it is a stunted Cuban or possibly dovii x cuban (perhaps selectively bred for a black pearl pattern) and it looks to have some skin infection/fungus. I would treat that asap so it doesn't transfer to your other fish.

I am not sure if it’s still infected, or if it is scarred, just because it doesn’t look quite like anything I’ve ever seen before

Almost has the rainbow coloring. Maybe like rainbow cichid and like jag??? I have no idea. The spots are trowing me off. Has the head of a JD and maybe the blue of an EBJD? Maybe the one parent had a hidden EBJD gene and its a cross???
