  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The tail seems fine however keep him under check;) Also warm baths and smood massages to the tail will increase circulacion. See if there is any stuck shed. As for vitamins you shouldnt use human ones , use zoomeds reptivit insted

Lots of things covered already but something to think about...if/when you do build him a permanent enclosure keep that old one around if you have the space. Throw some wheels/casters on it and when you do get some warm days wheel him out in it for some natural sun. You may not have that many good months for this (how are the summer temps up there?) but it's good for them.

If it gets to 85, people start bursting into flame...

ive used bananna for fusy eaters as well. they go nuts for them;)

overall the igg doesnt look to bad. starting feeding right and get some nice UVB bulbs and you will be in bussiness. he should bulk right up.. also get the book "iguanas for dummies" read it and then re read it. its a great book. i still like to glance though it every few months or so.

Tail should be ok, tip looks a bit ragged, maybe some old shed at one time but coura is right about the bath.

Yep, banana for sure. Fruit in general (not citrus, mine would never go for it).

also if she was only fed peppers for a year she may be reluctant to touch anything else. cut everything real small and mix it all together. make sure to throw in lots of colorful veggies and fruits. she'll be eating in no time;)

Hi, I've also a recued Iguana:) Glad you did this. Don't worry bout the tail, my Lizzy's is like that too from when her previous owners mishandled her. Try Raspberries as a treat and coat your other vegtables in them if they are liked. Lizzy loves those and strawberries which we give to her on occasion.
As for the enclosure my dad and I built her a 5' by 5' room with windows, a door, and screen and everything! We are still in the process of getting her live plants, but otherwise this worked out well. She gets to free roam from time to time especially in my room as it has all of my other reptiles. She was stunted as well at three years old she was barely a foot long, but once we got her into her new room and fed her better she grew like mad! She is now 4'5", with a temper to match I might add. Lol. Nah, shes a sweety, but does need a lot of care as she wasn't treated very well. Poor thing.

I'm beginning to wonder if he was Vitamin D deficient. They were using a florescent light fixture from a 20g tank as "UV" bulb. Not even any writing on the bulb, so I don't know. But he hung out under the new grow-lights for an hour, and he perked up for the first time since he got here.

He took about a tablespoon of calcium-fortified apple sauce earlier tonight... then fell asleep on the back of the chair.

So far, so good.

Good to hear! If you want him to try new foods try rubbing some on the tip of his nose and they will naturally lick it off.

I had a monster iggy years ago so my advice is dated for sure but I second the greens suggestion. I would make a salad of mainly turnip greens and kale mixed with fruit, strawberries and other veggies and sprinkle on the store bought reptile vitamin powder.

Mine liked to hang out on a regular strip light that I wraped in chicken wire so she couldn't touch the bulb and get burned, ofcoarse a uv bulb would be prefered.

I have so many funny memories about my time with the Iguana, like how I bought her on a trip and snuck her on to the plane when I went home, with her in the front pouch of my Izod wind breaker

or driving cross contry home from college in a blizzard with the defrost cranked and the lizard on my dash spitting salt crystals in my face the whole way. People would pass me and point and stare.

Or the summer she ripped the screen off my window and escaped for 2 months and the neighbor found her in their garden, she had eaten so much that she pooped a giant green cigar that I had to pull out of her it was so big. It wasn't even digested it was a giant green rolled up leaf cigar!

Or how I tried to incubate her eggs not thinking about how there wasn't a male to fertilize them. Up till then I thought it was a boy. Her name was Cheech.

LOL
