This little Oscar makes my 6th Oscar but my 1st "Rescue Oscar", I raised my other 5 from babies. This little guy is 3 yrs old and only 6" long, his history breaks my heart, it's so typical of the way far too many Oscars are kept. He was in a 55 g with 2 other Oscars all of his 3 yrs. Water changes were few and far between, fed only koi pellets when it occurred to them to feed them. The other 2 Oscars tore him up if they could catch him when he darted out from his 'rock' to grab a pellet. The night someone called me about him he'd been sitting in a bucket for 24 hrs after having been beat up again, they hadn't gotten around to putting him in the freezer, just didn't mean enough to them to even do that, they were tired of messing with it all. I suppose he'd have just died in the bucket. Oscars (along with Goldfish & Bettas) are one of those most unappreciated fish in the hobby. But beacuse of their puppy-life personalities and intelligence they're my all-time favorite. I named him "Indiana Jones", for his courage, I guess. The 1st picture is the night I got him 5 wks ago, the 2nd is last night with his mouth stuffed full of mussels. I have no idea why he's still alive & never got Hole In The Head.
Just wanted to share :)

What a wonderful job you have done in such a short period of time. :)

wow he sure coloured up well! nice work! he is a good looking fella

Thanks both of you :-)) I always said I had too much maternal instinct. He's a great fish and as it turns out I'm the lucky one after all.

Looks good! Nice rescue. I kind of miss having an Oscar...I was at a lfs and started staring at the Oscar tank today.

They remind me so much of Golden Retrievers. Big, messy, dig holes, splash water. But just like Goldens I could swear they smile at me when they see me :-) Extra work but never not worth it.

:headbang2i can`t beleive there are people out there that would let such a beautiful fish get into such a state all credit to you you`ve done a cracking job and he looks georgeous now:headbang2

you have done a stunning job mate, weldone, Is he in a hospital at present or?
Do you have all your oscar's together in one tank?would like to see a photo if yes

It wasn't actually a hospital tank, the night I got him was "get him now or let him die" so I snatched a mature filter from another tank & set up a 30 gal, he's only 6" because of his stunting. He stayed in that for a few days until I switched fish around and cleared him out a 70 g tank. The best medicine in the world is fresh clean water, that's all he got :-) I don't have all the Oscars together-I'd never get lucky enough that they'd all get along lol. I'm thankful I've got 4 that live peacefully with another Oscar.
