My firemouth (along with my nicaraguan) is the only fish that doesn't hide in my tank. He spends all his time hurding my 4 silver dollars around (he thinks he is one of them). I am sure once yours has become used to his surroundings you will find him to be out and about more often especially once he realises you are the feeder 8)

firemouths are often timid but like convicts they can be bullies. just give it time it will come around . the best way to sex them is venting .
this might help. sorry pic sucks . this is my old pair protecting their fry.the male on the left and female on the right. not all males and female look like this but hope it helps.

Much more active today! He flares up and goes at my jd when it gets to close, he still hides when I first come in the room but he's beginning to come around.

I am going to get flamed for this but people really really need to stop saying rescued. you never hear/see experienced fishkeepers using this term. just impulse buyers. i too, at times, buy on an impulse but i have never rescued a fish. BTW he is already looking better.
