I rescued this Jag 6 months ago from a guy who was selling cichlids out of his basement. This guy was in a 50 gal breeder with 2 other huge dovii that beat the heck out of him. His fins were all tore up and he was close to death. I asked how much for the Jag and he said $10 so i tokk baught him. He/she is doing very well now and seems to be all healed up. Living in a 75 gal all to himself

gorgeous male Jag good job on rescuing him and nursing him back to health:thumbsup:

Jaguars are one of my favorite fish. I agree with the above it's only a good rescue if you plan to properly house him. You will need a tank upgrade soon. Anyway I'm sure you know that. It's a beautiful fish nice pickup.

Not that i'm arguing with you on upgrade, i planned on it when i can afford a bigger tank, but i read on here that a 55 gal is plenty to house an oscar, so how cant a 75 gal be enough for a single jag?

Obviously you've never seen full grown cichlids before. You're used to seeing them at their smaller sizes in your lfs. Not only do they get longer but also much thicker. I can't possibly describe it and make you understand. Go to a public aquarium that keeps CA cichlids to get a true sense of scale....but trust me, you'll need to upgrade. A full grown Jag will make a 180g tank look small.

oh yeah and btw, a 55g is NOT big enough to house an Oscar. Where did you get that idea? On here? I doubt it....

75 gallons is fine for a jag . just take care of him . you know how good your filters are and how much they can handle . maybe you have to care for that tank more . its just called fish keeping , he'll be alright in there ...
