So I found this at my LFS and grabbed him. He is in a 10 gallon taking a melafix bath for the next week or so to see if it heals him. I have had wonders done with melafix and 82+ temps.

...but I dont know what kind of cat he is. He is 6 inches, jet black. I raised the brightness in the first pic so you could see his features to make an ID easier hopefully.

Any help with his identity would be greatly appreciated. If he heals, Im going to try him in my 265 Central American tank.

Im thinking maybe either Hemisynodontis membranaceus or Brachysynodontis batensoda...but I dont know. I ve never had cats before.

Sydontis eupterus, highfin syno. He should be fine for your 265.

If that's gillcurl in the 5th pic, it looks really bad. Hope you can heal him up well.

How about in an aggressive CA 265. I have festae, trimac, & carpintis? They dont hunt down anyone or kill..and they are 5-8 inches.

I spoke too soon and like I knew what i was talking about...Having taken a look at the good side, it probably is gill curl. At first I didnt think it was because it looks like a gaping wound. Ill do my best. My festae had a bad wound and the melafix cured it in about a week, and within 10 days I could hardly tell it had happened.

i would and always used mela and pima in combo.... keep the water clean and should be good... i agree with the syn ID...

Its not gill curl at all. Its a wound that looks like he was stabbed by a sword:nilly:! Obviously he wasnt, but its a gaping wound like he was. Ill do my best. My festae had the same wound and the melafix cured it in about a wweek, and within 10 days I could hardly tell it had happened.
yep he should be fine with the aggressive cichlids. Sydontis cats live with africans so I can't see why they can't like with CA cichlids.

just make sure he has a piece of drift wood to hide under or something in the 265...
