rescured a Geo....what is it??

seems Geos are in lfs lately.. i haven't seen them in awhile.. nice pick up!
 
Hi Peter, because of the origin conflict we discussed with the other fish, I am much less sure of what it is and don't think a solid I.D. can be given. It has a lot of G. abalios qualities but also has more of a spotted caudal than I would expect from an adult. I'm afraid there are a lot of Geophagus popping up that don't fit nicely into the confines of the described species. G. abalios seems to be one with a lot of variation, most notably with caudal pattern. They do look to be two very different fish. I wish I could be more help,

Ed - knowing what it isn't (altifrons) is just as important as knowing what it is. Thanks for the good info as always.
