I am resealing 2 150 gallon tanks for a seafood restaurant by me. The one tank isnt a problem just need to scrap the old silicon out and run a new bead. But the second tank the top trim is cracked on a corner. (completely seperated) The end glass where the crack is the glass moves when I push on it. I can see some of the silicon between the glass where its no longer there. How do I go about resealing this one?

Also a side note. Neither of these 2 tanks have center braces on top of bottom But they have been using them for years with no problems. Someone was replacing carpet and bumped the rack they were sitting on and now they leak.

I've resealed tanks before but nothing with having to deal with the silicon between the glass. Any input would be very helpful right now.

Also with that all being said. What would a job like this run price wise?

free food and drinks if you play yer cards right :)
sorry i have no idea for a price...

for the tanks seperating.. as far as i know (from what ive read i just did my first reseal yesterday) if its come apart you have to take it apart and rebuild it.. if you can get the one piece off without messing up the other seams then thats all you have to redo.. but from what i understand getting one piece off usuially results in taking the whole thing apart... i read that "flossing" fishing line between the two pieces is the best way to get them apart..

Some use guitar string or piano wire. Its a little stronger that fishing line.

I have used utility knive's to take apart tank's but i have also broken a few this way (smaller tank's) The fishing line idea might be a safe bet.

I already get free food from there. My best friends mom works there so everytime I go in I get a free meal.

I will get some pictures up as soon as I find my camera. Might take a while since I just moved and everything is in boxes still. Thanks everyone on the tips on how to repair it. Never thought about using guitar or piano wire.

How would I get the trim off though?

The trim should just pull off I have done it to lots of tanks in the past. If you are worried that the tanks may bow out too much you can always make a Euro brace for them.

I have plenty of guitar strings sitting around. Well there somewheres here anyway lol.

How did you go about running the bead between the glass? I see you used tape to hold it in place until it dried. Also since it is just the one side do you think I would be able to get away with replacing the silicon from that end panel or should it go all the way around?

I need to get pictures up so everyone understands what I am talking about a little better.

Depends on the tank construction. If you can remove that pane, and it just needs to be glued back onto the 3 other sides, so that the other edges all come up to the face of the removed side, then you can just do the one. If the side you are removing fits BETWEEN the other sides, or there is a transition from an edge joint to a face joint somewhere along the way, you will have a bunch of trouble.

When I did it, I spent a lot of time cleaning, and re-cleaning the seams to be joined, then one at a time I put a fat bead of silicone on the edge of one sheet, and carefully pressed the face of the mating glass into place so it squeezed out any bubbles. I then taped it in place and carefully used my finger to wipe off the excess.
