You're a bit nuts man, I wouldn't trust that picnic table to hold an engine block, nevermind a 1600lb fish tank!

No one ever said I was sane. Tables were pretty sturdy so I figured why not. lol Tanks were too heavy to put into my basement. (narrow stairway with a turn landing)

I hear ya. Tables are surprisingly sturdy. I just have an innate fear of very heavy objects held precariously. Probly due to the number of times I've knocked my car off jack stands. :p

If the tank you resealed looked as bad as the one you haven't I must say great job, because that one is bad.

Even if it wasn't as bad still a good job. I am in the middle of a reseal on my 125 and it's not much fun. I have 99.99% of the silicone scraped but I keep going over and over to make sure there isn't any left at all because I want to get it right the first time. Looks like you did, good job. :)

Getting the old crud off is 90% of the work. It's almost easier to seperate the seams.

yea the tank that I finished looked just like the other one. Very bad shape except the seam between the glass looked fine. I messed up a bit on resealing this one though. Ran out of silicon half way through and had to run up the street real quick to buy another tube before it started to dry on me. good thing there was a hardware store 1/2 mile away lol

Yea getting the old stuff off takes the longest. I make sure I get everything off of the glass before resealing. Also I use masking tape to mark out my bead and wipe everything down with rubbing alcohol first.

How many tubes did it take you to do one tank?

I have just been using standard denatured alcohol, is that ok or is rubbing alcohol special in some way?

Rubbing alcohol and denatured alcohol are the same thing. Alcohols, Mineral spirits, Acetone, and many other solvents will assist. Alcohol is best if only resealing the fillet bead on the inside of the tank, as stronger solvents like acetone will weaken the silicone holding the glass panes together as well. I used acetone in my rebuild because I was removing ALL the old silicone (IMO the best way to go, but a bit more work)
