I wouldn't start sealing with out no less than 4 tubes on hand of GE silicone#1. One is surely not enough. A 4 pack from Lowes is $15..
You don't need to make the seal wider than original. You don't want to run out once you start sealing, cause if you do you'll have to cut it out and start over again.

This is the product I used http://www.wolcott-park.com/documentView.asp?docid=120 and yes, I only used 75% of one cartridge. I know it states "not for submerged use" but after reading reviews of various other products, I decided on using it. I have resealed 7 tanks six months ago and have had no issues with leaking, peeling or fish health problems. I did not purchase it from the above link, I bought it online from a local company.

I don't understand what you would need to reseal on the OUTSIDE of the tank. What purpose would that serve?

Sealing the outside of the tank will do nothing to stop a leak. When sealed inside the water pressure pushes the silicone making the seal. On the outside water pressure would push off the silicone if there were a leak.

Thanks guys ;) im aware what the pressure does therefore ill be foccused on the inside of the tank. However someone who sealed the tank before me did it outside too so ill do it again just be on safe side lk. It's just a thin layer, nothing big really, it might be just for finishing corners.

Hi again i resealed my tank its been over 48h already but i decide to wait day or 2 just in case. I put quite a lot of silicone from 1/2'' to 3/4'' how long more should i wait?

I waited 1 week after redoing my 125G tank. If you put the silicone on very thick, you may need to wait longer.

Some people recommend waiting until you can't smell the uncured silicone anymore. Some silicone is air cured, others are moisture cured. What did the directions on the tube of silicone state for bead thickness and curing time?

i would say wait a week at least that way you make sure it is cured all the way through. its better to wait rather than rushing it and have to do it all over again.
