Resealing large tanks, crazy method

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A leaking tank that is otherwise in good condition ( meaning the silicone between the panels of glass because that’s what holds the tank together)
Then all it needs is an inside reseal.

If you look between the glass and the silicone is opaque and white looking not clear then that silicone has lost it’s holding power it is being sheared from the glass, you should do a rebuild.
Take the tank apart and rebuild with fresh silicone.

Yeah mine looks pretty bad. I wounder if I could just cut the bottom pane loose and keep all 4 sides together.

It may be possible to cut the bottom off and reattach but the whole inside seam would still need to be done in order to insure it won’t leak.
New silicone does not stick to old silicone.

I dont have a problem doing the inside. My main concern is avoiding a full tear down. I saw that guys article saying he had done hundreds of tanks without tearing them down and got excited.

I get it.
Look at it like this.
A little extra work now could save a lot of headache later.
If you have any doubts I would just bite the bullet and rebuild the whole tank.
You don’t won’t this to leak again after it’s fully stock.
That’s a pain. Plus the possibility of damaging your home.
