This is long overdue.
I’m finally working on resealing my 135g terror tank.
I just finished getting the silicone removed. I still need to go over it with alcohol or acetone.
Is either one better then the other for removing residue?

Please excuse the mess. The stand has become a catch all since it’s in the middle of the room.

I still need to vacuum all the silicone bits out once it dries.

Tomorrow I’ll clean up and put the tape down. Might even seal it up if I have the chance. Otherwise I’ll seal it Tuesday. I really hope I get this right the first time around!

Some use Acetone but alcohol will suffice. Take your time and you should be fine.

I’ll use acetone then. Thank you.
I tried to be as carful as possible not to get in between the glass panes. I’m pretty surprised that the tank didn’t leak in a couple other places where the silicone was less the 1/8 wide in the corners. Maybe I’m wrong, but that doesn’t seem like much.

I was going to just clean up the tank today and then start uncovering gardens outside, but we have a blizzard warning for Wednesday now. Ugh. I’ll leave the gardens alone and focus on the tank instead.

Out of those options if id go with a acetone. Denatured alcohol works as well.

Personally I think MEK (methyl ethyl ketone) works the best. Acetone dry so quick which makes it hard to work with. MEK drys slower

I haven’t heard of MEK before. Where would a person buy it from? Just Incase the acetone doesn’t work out. I appreciate the advice!

You should be able to get it locally at chain hardware stores. It should be around the acetone

It took me a few days, but I finally sealed the tank. Had to wait for the last snow storm to pass. We lost power and the temp in the house dropped. I didn’t want that to mess with the curing.
I’m not 100% happy with how it turned out. I feel it’s sloppy, but hopefully it’s water tight.

So how long should I wait to test? I was thinking 5 days maybe?
