for example of what i said, we had a person on this forum that had sturgeon in a tank with the temps in the 80s. wth
With......

Sturgeon tend to die to quickly in tanks, regardless of the temps

this is true, but stick a cold water species in such warm water, they are gonna die quickly. they said, they will adapt. my responce, can u adapt to less oxygen?

"Buying a pacu and putting it in a 50g tank is "Animal cruelty". Not keeping your tank/reptile enclosure as clean as you can, is"Animal Cruelty""Nasty algae covered glass and stinking water is" Animal Cruelty"."

I rescued 3 pacu as babies(prob 4" or so)from a 29 gallon tank. The person bought these with the "experienced employee's" statement that they may grow to 12":WHOA:..Walmart no less!!! I rescued them and put them in my 180. Less than a year later I had to rehome them(about 16" +)!!! I knew what I was getting into but the person I rescued them from had no idea what they were in for.

Dion is right!!! People need to do more research before they buy on impulse and ask more than one lfs store or walmart employee.

a 29g tank for 3 pacu is like putting a horse in a dog crate:screwy:.. But they took walmart's word that an upgrade to a 55g would be needed. They pacu would all be fine for life in a 55:WHOA:!!! As monster fish keepers here on this site--most of us have filters bigger than a 55g aquarium--and I still couldn't keep them to adulthood--RESEARCH!!!!!!

Thanks all,:headbang2

Thanks, Chris but ppl just dont get it. I've seen many threads that say the same thing. People just dismiss it and buy what they want regardless of the end results..PPl would rather just buy an aro for a 55 because they are cool and then post a "help me" thread in a few months. This thread was a waste of time...

Yeah..I know... But you have to try--at least I do.. If one person puts aside what they want for a minute to research, then we have helped out the hobby and the fish.

Good thread,
Chris

".. Its very simple to google anything and i mean ANYTHING to find out information before you buy/adopt/rescue....

While I agree on the main point (Research first!) I think you have a MAJOR "MONSTER" flaw in your logic:

It is easy to use any search engine just the same as it is to use google. The problem is that it is just as easy to get flat out extremely poor, misleading or even intentionaly false information on the internet through any search engine. This requires the casual user to visit numerous sites in order to gain any kind of confidence in the quality of the information that they have recieved. Even then, and probably in MOST cases, the results will be so diverse that the user is no better off then before they started their quest!

The beauty of a forum like this is that you have a wealth of knowlege in this hobby all in one place at your command. When you get the inevitable unsound data or even rude peoples falsehoods, there are plenty of very good hearted experienced fish keepers that WILL chime in and allow for a far more educated and accurate set of information from your quest.

In addition, experienced users can give added value related to the topic that you are researching that the user would have otherwise had no clue as to query on the internet.

Interactive information beats the tar out of statis information everytime.

With all of the information available on the web, and the experienced fish keepers here on MFK--It seems to me that lack of research is just lazy:confused:!!!!??? Oh well you can't save them all.

When I first tried to re-home my pacu the first response from the lfs was to fillet them:eek:...lol!!!!

Wow!!!,
Chris

Very true!! I agree to a point. I believe that if you are sincerly interested in something you will be willing to try to filter out the crap you find online..Just my opinion. That is why I settled in here at MFK.. You can find info on any fish related question you could ever have right here. Answers ranging from experts in their field to the hobiest who has been there and done that.

Very nice post(Thank-You),

Funny, considering you are wrong. There is a 'freshwater lionfish', Batrachus trispinosus. Which is brackish, not marine.
Funny! Batrachus trispinosus is well known as stonefish or toadfish, more than lionfish... Lionfish is well known as marine fish

Shows how much you really know. You should try google some time. Thats G-O-O-G-L-E........Have you ever saw a blue fry or a gg fry ? They look very similar.
Funny! You can spell, but can't tell the different between the two gourami. BTW, I use google.com, since google alone won't get you anywhere ;)
