I've came across a pretty bit thread here with people who have liners in their plywood builds . Builds with windows as well

From that threa alone I'm kinda wondering why more people don't go that route and save alot of money on the cost of epoxies

A liner not even be an option with a build like I am wanting to do in the future . I am wanting to build a stacked aquarium like silentbob is currently building and like johng has in the past

This forum is so addicting.

I am glad I'm not the only mad man out there concerning my obsession with aquatics

In the end it all ends up being pretty much the same cost wise whether you use a liner, epoxy, epoxy fiberglass, cement or whatever u can come up with. Its more of what ur comfortable working with and what u have available rather than cheapness.
As i stated in the p.m. it cost me $420 for the correct silicone needed to seal my acrylic to epdm liner and im sure theres a cheaper way but y risk it? U can save money by choosing a tank size using standard material lenghts with minimal cut waste rather than saving $$ on ways to make it hold water. For example it cost me around $1800-2500 to build a 650gal and its going to cost basically the same price or cheaper to make a 3200gal. Any way u look around it its not cheap and one way is basically the same difference to the other when it comes down to it.

I think allot of people worry about liners and the hole one might get in it later during use. With the fiberglass method you worry about getting it sealed tight the first time around and then can more or less forget about it. No matter what building a large system costs allot of money no matter what.

Nothing lasts forever either...simple engineering principal, its not a matter of if it will fail, its when will it fail?. Could be a week, could b 100yrs down the road but its destined to fail one way or another, even professionally made tanks. Liners get holes, fiberglass cracks, glass shatters, wood rots and steel rusts....so pick ur poison and make the best of it lol

I chose to go the liner route because I have had great luck with them. My 1500 pond is made using a 45 mil EPDM liner. As in my pond, I used underlayment in my 475 gallon build. It helps the liner survive impact from a dropped rock. There is a new product called Geo-Pad Liner Underlay that looks good. You can find more information on it here http://www.justliners.com/geopad.htm.

My only concern with the liner was getting a good seal around the window. I used 5200 marine grade sealer which worked great. I bought the white one from Amazon because they had it on special for half price and you can't see it from the outside.
