So, I've had Pyru for about a week and half now. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=364298 (Pics and such.) When I was leaving New Orleans after purchasing him I heard a couple clicky sounds intermediately come from him on the way home but dismissed it as I thought he was huffing at me.

Then I googled around and read somewhere that sometimes snakes make click sounds right before they shed. I fought with getting the humidity up the first few days. Initially used paper towels and newspaper, which even with misting only got up to 30%-40%. The herp centered petstore employees told me the sounds were probably just the low humidity, get some cocofiber substrate and not to worry about it. Well, Saturday night he had some nasal discharge.
I gave him a little amoxicillin mixed with water Sat and Sun until I could get to the herp vet. Monday the vet sent off a culture and prescribed Baytril mixed in with his water. Hopefully he responds to the Baytril this week and will get better soon.
The vet told me to take out the cocofiber and use carpet but I fear I won't be able to keep the humidity up with it. Going to pick some up tomorrow and shall see I suppose.
Any of you guys had a snake with a respiratory infection before? How did it go?

Yeah, Baytril kind of sucks from what I recall working at this chain petstore awhile back. We used it constantly in the sick room and not much made it out of there alive.
I'm going to be bugging the vet clinic constantly about the culture results to get something better. Thanks for the well wishes and help.

He still looks spry, tanked up on the baytril water earlier.... hopefully I caught it soon enough and it isn't something viral :/

Oh no! I'm sorry you lost her. How long did she have it? What antibiotics did you try?

...I'm really worried now. ):

Welp, he's doing about the same. The nasal discharge has slowed down a bit and I haven't seen him yawn in a few days. His breath is still very congested sounding. I've been wafting him over a bowl of steam to help with the congestion and seems to be helping drain some mucous out.
He turned down his second mouse earlier tonight. Haven't seen him drink any more water. He weighed 114 grams on Saturday and weighs 108 tonight so I assume he isn't becoming dehydrated?
I tried to talk to the vet today about the culture results and if we should try a stronger medicine but he never called me back. >:( So disconcerting!

Bit of an update on Pyru. Took him in Saturday morning because I only saw him drink the baytril water once and he wasn't doing any better. Vet put him on injections of Amikacin every 72 hours. Vet warned me to make sure he drinks lots of H2O because the drug can cause kidney damage. Put him in his water bowl and he drank and sat in it for a good half hour so that's a good sign I guess. The results of the culture have yet to come back but hopefully the amikacin will get whatever it is.

Hope he pulls through.
