Hello,

Recently I was in the moving process and took down my 125 about a year ago. I have been housing my jaguar and a pleco in a 40 gallon during the process, although the jag is about 9 inches now.... grew much faster than expected - clearly needs to get out of the 40.

Well I finally was able to set up my 125 again tonight, so it is currently cycling and what not. Just curious what else I could add to the tank... The jaguar is male, and while it is aggressive it isn't hyper-aggro or anything, it got along with others in the 125 when it was previously running, though he was smaller. I will certainly add the new tankmates first so he doesn't establish territory instantly.

The lfs had a full grown, ~10 inch JD that looked to be in good shape, so I was considering that. It was quite a bit thicker than my jag currently is.

They also have small, ~2 inch flowerhorns. While I've never been a huge fan, they look quite amazing for being so young. Would this combo of 3 work in the long run?

Open to all suggestions,

Thanks!

Tried to take a picture of the Jag... have to sneak up on him, absolutely hates the camera. Can't clean that off the glass for the life of me...

And the piece of driftwood that will go in the tank, somehow.

That's one awesome piece of driftwood you got there! Hopefully you don't have to cut it too much to make it fit.

I have no idea if this combo will work in the long run? Never kept a flowerhorn but most of the time I've seen them kept solo as a wet pet. Hope they will work out for you.

Can't help you with what to stock but I can recommend checking out the classifieds at gcca.net. You'll find a better selection than a lfs, better prices and post a wtb ad for free if what you're looking for isn't available.

or a razor should help the stain.i would re-think the flowerhorn and JD.if your jag is the main fish, then go with some smaller growing, faster cichlids.one tough fish i would try is the salvini, then maybe a vieja type? and 3 big SD's.i would try to get all the other fish in the 125 soon as your cycle is done.give them a few weeks,or longer head-start time.then big water change, lights out,add the jag

I think I have ruled out the JD and might just either return the FH or put it in a separate tank. What about a salvini pair? I would love to get a Sajica pair but they seem near impossible to find, at least locally.

And don't all vieja species grow very large??? As for the SD's, I used to have a group of 6 and they just seemed pretty boring. Are there any other options for dithers? Do rainbows stay too small?

Jags hate anything period. Don't get anything small unless a wolf cichlid. That is about the only thing can hold its own at 1/2 the size of the Jag. Flowerhorn is good as dead.

I have seen some jags on MFK that seem to accept tankmates.some large fish don't bother smaller fish, maybe don't feel threatened.my 11 inch hybrid jagXtexas has accepted a small female salvini in his 75,its been 5 months now.some rainbows get bigger they could work.filament barbs, lemon barb,T-barbs,tinfoils but they really get too big.
