With angelfish small balas and small severum....you wouldn't be able to put in any 6 inch cichlids............

I don't plan on buying them already at 6". I was going to try to stay below 3", so nothing would get eaten. I just wanted cichlids that got big.

A crayfish will eat anything it can catch. They are stronger than they look and master escape artists. Don't put yourself through the trouble. Yes it will catch your bichir. They aren't great at hunting, but in a confined space they are bound to catch something eventually.

I'm assuming crabs are the same way.

Don't want to sound pesimistic but usually cichlids who grow to 6 inches or more Would be too mean for Angel fish and would outgrow the balas.

I've heard good things about Chocolates, would they be okay? What about more Severum?

All I know about crabs is that they aren't fully aquatic. And it's far from a guarantee that your current severum won't tear up those angels when it gets bigger.
