Restored 40's Aquarium 150 gallons

This wood was from the 70's or 80's it was stored under my grandmas house for years in a pile, this stuff is solid and dried not the typical wood you would find at home depot, I pre-drilled and use heavy duty screws its pretty solid. I trust it, more so then the petsmart stands they sell for 150 gallon aquariums.

My guess, as an old guy, (54) is that it is a Metaframe brand tank from the 60's or early 70's. Google it, and you can find a fair amount of info. They had slate bottoms originally, which was pretty cool. Made them very heavy. I got a 10 gallon for christmas when I was 10. It even had the stainless hood and used incandesent lighting. Great tank, you will enjoy it.
 
Thanks, I have showed people in my family the aquarium they are like it looks really beautiful but hearing feedback about the tank is great, I originally thought this was 40's but I am learning maybe just a little more in the 60's era. I will be sure to keep the forum updated when I have all the plumbing done, I finished caulking it tonight. I went to home depot and I found a shop light that is silver in color, so it will offset the aquarium nicely.

For a substrate.. call around your local rock supply places. Ask if they have red flint gravel.
A place in our town sells it by the ton.. which makes it unbelievably cheap when you just need enough for a fish tank bottom. I just brought some garbage bags and a shovel.. They weigh your car before and after.. it was very cheap. Many public aquariums use Red Flint as their substrate.

I tried sand before, not a big fan of it, although some people like it.
I don't like sand, because you need to stir it up about every week to ensure it doesn't get anaerobic, plus sand is a pita to do the initial cleaning on.. I agree that sand looks cool though.
 
Nice pickup on the tank!!! The largest one I've been able to get is 55G with the original slate bottom and dang it is heavy.

Why not use the original stainless hoods that came with it? I would love to get some for my tanks.
