Ive been using my Nitrate reduct for a week now. I wanted to put it in for my ray so that she would have top quality water. This media has the simple habit to absorb nitrates without releasing anything else. It will get satisfied and thus needs regeneration after 3 weeks. To regenerate, simply put it in a bucket with salt and an airstone.
It can easily be placed in a bag in the sump or cannister.

It looks like this stuff (in fact, its the same but different brand):
D-VP-NitratStop-Supra.gif

Ive bought 10 liters of this stuff. Im using 4 liters in main tank and 2 in other tank. I keep the other 4 liters for the regeneration process.

Results:
After one week, nitrates have gone down from over 50 to 10 ppm. Other water parameters are not affected in any way.
The fish really seem to like it. Every single fish is way more active and better colored. My datnoid especially is showing even cooler behaviour.

All in all, im very very satisfied with teh result and i can recommend it to all monster keepers here!

its pretty expensive. I paid 20 euro per liter. But if you can use it for many years and shows such great results, its worth the money imo.

How do you regenerate it Stiffmeister? Also, where in the sump do you place the bag?

I still don't believe that this is a replacement or even substitute for water changes. What does it do for other DOCs that can't be tested for? What about hormones?

regeneration is easy: 300grams of salt per liter of reduct and some water. Add an airstone to keep the water moving and keep it in the bucket for 2 days. Then wash it out and done.

I keep the bags near the pump to make sure that water gets pulled through at a good rate.

what hormones and docs do you have in mind?

I dont use it as a substitute for Waterchanges... i use it to regain control over nitrates. Still doing my 3x per week wc.

I was under the impression that nitrates are an indicator of other "stuff" that can't be tested for. Let me see if I can find the link. It was something I read a long time ago.

Thanks for the results bro ... it definately looks like I'm gonna have to try get a hold of some of this stuff. What is the other brand the you mentioned in the original post? ... and are there more brands out there?

Thanks again!

Nitrates in general are just the end product of the aerobic part of the nitrogen cycle. High nitrates could result from a poorly maintained tank or (in StiffMeister my case) a very high bio-load. These could also result in high DOCs, but not necessarily AFAIK..
