SO, i've been looking at used tanks. Craigslist in our area has a TON of used tanks, but the retards keep asking insane prices for used tanks. Case in point. Right now there is a 29 gal for $75!!! a few weeks ago I did pick up a nice 75 for $75, but that is pretty rare. I thought it should be $1 per gallon up to about 75 gallons? Theres people selling 10 gallon tanks with a stupid piece of garbage filter, used gravel, a net, and a light for $50!! WTF?

I posted an ad saying "just because you paid $180 for your 29 gal tank a year ago and it's been used ever since doesn't mean you can ask $75 for it!"

Know what you mean. I ran into an ad for two 5 gallons and a ten for $50! Just the tanks! They have been in the paper for two months now, wonder why they haven't sold?:screwy:

When a 55 does come up the seller wants like $100 for it.

I did get a good deal on some CL CF lights, $100 for two 130 watt light strips, used for two months.

The value of a tank isn't set in stone, the value is only what the community will pay for it. If people are asking those high prices in your area, that means there are people paying those high prices in your area. You should go talk some sense into those people.

I've seen some crazy prices in the craigslist ads and @ the "thrift" stores here as well. Luckily the fish clubs have good prices, picked up a used 33g for 15$

I see the same crazy prices here. ex: $300 for a 55 glass and stand. :WTF: I went to see a guy who had a 125G for $900 with a stand that I would trust to hold a 55!

But every now and then I see some prices on CL that are too good to be true and I wonder what the hell must be wrong with it? and its always some retard who cant even answer my questions right.!!!!!

Actually, people aren't buying them. I'd say 90% of the tanks listed have been on there for 6-8 months. I contacted a girl that had a 90 gal with stand and had a bunch of live rock n filters for $1200 :screwy: I asked if she'd part it out and just sell me the tank since I noticed she hasn't had luck selling it in a few months. She said sure she'd part it out. So I said, well, how much for the tank and stand? She said $800. Ummm. No. It's still on CL. She'll never sell it.

You have to remember that people who don't neccasarily need the money and just got bored with it don't know any better. I have seen some ridiculous prices but I've seen some awesome ones too. In the end let the people wanting too much or the ones you think want to much keep their tank. It's a free world after all.

To be perfectly fair, $75 is a lot less than what a lot of people are obviously willing to pay for it new, and a 1 year old tank has a LOT of life left in it.

Why is it not worth fully 42% of it's original value just because it got wet for a year? Even a new car holds its value better than that.

To the average fish keeper, who will never visit this or any other hardcore hobbyist site, $75 is a helluva deal when they just got home from pricing out new at the fish shop.

In reality, we have been spoiled by very low tank prices and the availability of fish and dry goods from our aquarium societies. Remember back to when you started. We all paid retail at some point, and it is good that most people still do, because that is what keeps the stores bringing new fish and supplies to support our now-evolved needs and wants.

Pick the deals you want, and pass on the others. Criticizing sellers on a public forum is pretty tacky.

I tend to kind of agree with copeina, if you dont want the 29 gallon tank search on till you find your tank, if there is absolutley nothing wrong with that setup and it includes filters and all, that really is not a bad price. He or she obviously worked for what they got and are asking for *less* then half in return... not horrible...

I'm only saying that in general, people are asking far too much for their tanks IMO.

Tacky? It is a public forum. I can say what I want, and you don't have to agree. I didn't slander anyone on this forum, however you just did. What I posted was my opinion on a general topic. Calling another forum member tacky. Is tacky.
