ok..so yesterday i went an picked up my second retic ray, and yes i know thay are not an easy-to-care-for ray..but motoro's around here go for 350-400 and there s no way im dropping that amount of money on such a delicate fish with no guarantee of it's health.
anyway, after it was acclimated, it stayed mostly at the bottom and occasionally swam up the sides on the tank, during the night i went in to turn the lights out and i noticed it was swimming along the surface, and then..shaped itself like a suction cup and sayed at the surface, head out of the water an all. i gently nudged it back under the water, but it hasnt been to the bottom since..i know all about the death curls and this was not it as it is still very active, just at the surface. this ray has a nice fat tail with no bones dshowing and even ate some shrimp an hour after he was in the tank.
it just stays in one spot for about 20 minutes at a time..in the suction cup position at the surface. my water paramters are perfect, the bottom is bare, but i cant see this as the reason for why is it at the surface. tankmates include 2 3 inch peacock bass and a mayan, who dont bother with the ray. temps are around 85*f
anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to why its doing this?
