ok..so yesterday i went an picked up my second retic ray, and yes i know thay are not an easy-to-care-for ray..but motoro's around here go for 350-400 and there s no way im dropping that amount of money on such a delicate fish with no guarantee of it's health.

anyway, after it was acclimated, it stayed mostly at the bottom and occasionally swam up the sides on the tank, during the night i went in to turn the lights out and i noticed it was swimming along the surface, and then..shaped itself like a suction cup and sayed at the surface, head out of the water an all. i gently nudged it back under the water, but it hasnt been to the bottom since..i know all about the death curls and this was not it as it is still very active, just at the surface. this ray has a nice fat tail with no bones dshowing and even ate some shrimp an hour after he was in the tank.
it just stays in one spot for about 20 minutes at a time..in the suction cup position at the surface. my water paramters are perfect, the bottom is bare, but i cant see this as the reason for why is it at the surface. tankmates include 2 3 inch peacock bass and a mayan, who dont bother with the ray. temps are around 85*f

anyone have any ideas or suggestions as to why its doing this?

Dude i have captive breed motoro and otorango and only 45 minutes from you for alot less then that. Thats is type of curl had some rays do that to me and within week they were all dead out of nowhere starting doing this also.

well, great..what are your prices?

when i had my rectics one of them did that not to long after being in the tank but only for a minute or so...

id take advantage of being by csx and go pick up a cb motoro pup from him from the pics i saw they look awsome so does his breeding facility...but rectics are good rays just dont always eat very well...if you can find one get a cb rectic if thats what species of ray you want

well, he died last night..found him at 12am in the curl

usually they do the floating with a weird suction cup look when ur water quality is bad. very very bad. stingrays require prestine water conditions.

mine was doing this n i did a 60% wc and it stopped 20 mins later. still alive n kickin after 3 months :) jus keep up with ur water changes and keeping a ray is as easy as keeping any other fish
