Perhaps this is the most famous retro game that has an underwater theme. Anyone remember this one?

Super Mario adventure island contra metal slug <3 these are master piece for me
mermaid madness on the commodore64 to continue the underwater game theme.
A bizarre game where you were a mermaid trying to catch a scuba diver who you were in love with. If you left the water the mermaid became a fat naked woman that you could control which was amusing for me and my brother at the time.
Now playing pc ps5 games which have amazing graphics but believe me not enjoying them like what we did with old games this gives me Goosebumps
I've often thought about buying an old console even though I have not played games on one for about 15 years

Thank God that it's not Asteroids Deluxe...I can probably manage not to get hooked on plain ol' Asteroids again...probably...
You should try it, Esox...it's a very simple basic game but one that can be as difficult as you want it to be. Ideally, the best way to play is to clear the screen of all the asteroids but one; if you shoot the last one, then the screen moves to the next screen full of rocks. Leaving that one lone little rock floating around gives you the chance to hover in a corner, awaiting the appearance of that nasty little alien ship who is the true target, and who gets faster and meaner, with better aim, at every level-up.
You can then shoot from a fixed position, or...even more fun...start rocketing across the screen while making strafing series of shots at the little bugger. This isn't the best way to make points, but is by far the most fun, IMHO. Or, you can...

When you mentioned "asteroids" earlier in the thread I thought little of it, until I came across that game on my sky apps.
I went into the app and immediately recognised it as a popular game that used to be in the pubs I frequented as a young man. I was never any good at it, unsurprisingly really as I was usually plastered, lol.
I don't recall the "deluxe" version though.
Lol, I usually played the stand-up version, and often during "working" hours...both of these factors conspired to force me to maintain a reasonably sober condition.
I was pretty good; enough so to take first place in a local tournament, which won me a very classy $2 plastic trophy. I do remember one local pub that had a table version of the game; playing it there while drinking was an object lesson in how drastically one's reflexes and reaction times are reduced as alcohol consumption increases.
Ah yes, that old chestnut. The correlation between increased alcohol consumption and decreased motor function has been the bane of most of my adult life, lol.
