Retro kids tank?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Looks like Penn Plax still makes the best diving dog ever made, and they ruled the 70's

No GloFish in the 70's though. It should probably have platys and swords with a blue or gold gourami or some tetras.

F FLA these are so awesome! I grew up in the 70's-80's and I remember having some of this stuff and the like....I've seriously got to do a retro tank! So much good vibes

This all brings back childhood memeories.
I remember the classic 1980s tanks around here had neutral coloured gravel with blue and red gravel scattered through it, red volcanic rocks, some of these ornaments and plastic plants with an under gravel filter.
Common stocked fish were tiger barbs, platies/swordtails, Bala sharks and marbled angelfish and one lonesome albino corydoras. All stuffed into a 40G.
As dodgy as it seems now if it wasn’t for those cheesy tanks when I was a kid I wouldn’t be keeping fish today.

I almost forgot , for the full retro aesthetic you need the printed background with a coral reef or sea anemone scene on it.

How big is the tank? Anything under 60 is perfect for some oscars and neon tetras. That’s how it was right?

I used to own multiple aquarium stores, bought quite a few of those familiar ornaments in box lots. If that scuba diver seems too good to open then keep it boxed.

I had the horizontal swimming scuba diver that released bubbles as a young kid. It came with a stainless steel tank and fluro gravel I bought used. The diver lost its stand but somehow lasted over 20 years. By then I had a serious fish addiction and was building my latest fish shed so I placed in into the concrete slab near the front door as a blessing ceremony.

I don't collect ornaments but do collect retro aquarium equipment. I have a kerosene lamp heater that puts a naked flame under the base of stainless steel tanks. A mechanical piston air pump that needs oil and an inline bottle of floss to filter out the air bourne oil particles, steel framed glass tanks sealed with putty and slate bottoms. Mercury filled thermometers. All in working condition.

This is seriously amazing! Especially the ornament in the cement...I’d totally do something like that ???❤️
