I can't imagine they would do very well in pairs right away - a group would probably be needed, much the same as other geophagus species. As far as price goes, I would have no idea - Rapps would probably have a ballpark, but availability must be low.

Its like they are a cross between Satanoperca and cichla - very interesting behavior, even for a geophagine.

Funny you should say that. Their closest relations are Cichla according to DNA. They are not Geophagines at all (according to said DNA). I hate DNA.

Yes, I read that somewhere also. I feel the same way you do about DNA - its a beautiful thing, but I am more a phenotype person that looks at physical characteristics of an organism rather than the molecular stuff. I guess its a double edged sword that we now have to abide by...

Interesting read Modest_Man. Looks like I may have to subscribe to that website to view the pics - if you are a member, please post em up here. Good to know that someone is taking an interest in breeding these rarities. Sounds like they are very sensitive to poor water quality too.

yeah supposedly some other guy whos name was never said in that thread that was linked was bringing them in wayyy cheaper, but he was a kind of a shady guy

I would not want to be someone who says: "you get what you pay for". I suppose waiting for a quality supplier like Rapps or snookn would be worth waiting for.

actually the fish in the vids linked in the first page came from this mystery guy and supposedly, he just did the importer thing part time, so it just was a very small operation, but got good fish and was honest
