I just got my 1st bichir and it's awesome it's about 6 inches hes names buck(rise of the planet of the apes gorilla) lol and my question is how big will it get?? And Also my ornate bichirs coming in too this Friday how big does he get? Special foods?treats? Power foods?

Wow I was doing sOme research their ancient fish with poor eye sight but the way they sense their food whoa kinda like a black ghost knife
But wat size is it more likely to get ?

I'd say no bigger than 12". In the long run(couple of years down the road), the Ornate will probably eat your Retrop cos' unlike it's greener cousin, the Ornate can get as big as 20"; one of the few Upper Jaw Bichirs that can grow past the 15" mark.

As for foods, the usual. MP, sinking pellets, fish fillets and of course live feeders.

Really I was thinking of adding the ornate an albino a senegalus. And maybe a delhezi??

Careful with the Ornate, they get big and fast.
They CAN sometime be very nasty too, not uncommon for them to try to eat fish almost as big as them dying in the process!

For a fat Bichir, Endlicheri. (The one in my avatar is thicker than a soda can.)

Ornate should be treated as a lower jaw species as they can get huge. As for tankmate compatibility, it really depends on the ornate's personality. Mine is quite shy and doesn't attack the other bichirs in the tank (even my short-bodied albino senegal).

If your ornate is smaller than your retro, they can coexist for a few months.
Once the ornate gets larger, it would be best to separate them at first sign of aggression.

Wow then no ornate then because I plan on having more bichirs in the tank I saw this. Fat head bichir in my lfs and it looked really cool but I knew nothing of it so I couldn't get it :/

Fat head is a common name for a Weeksii.
These ar another of the larger Upper jaw, and should like Ornates be treated as a lower jaw.
