return help. back siphoning !!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just have your returns set up just below the water line. In case of a power outage, they'll drain only until they break the water line and you'll be okay.

What would be the required diameter for the hole ?

For a siphon break, just large enough to introduce air into the pipe and keep water from backflowing. Start small like 1/8" and go from there. Position it so you dont get a pinhole stream of water splashing out of the tank or anything.

Periodically check the hole and make sure it isnt unstructured or w/e during your water changes.

A hole too small will produce a strong stream and cause sound/turbulence at the surface. A hole too big will reduce flow pressure. As stated above, 1/8" is a good starting point

thanks guys. I think I have found my issue. The return is an inch or two below the water line. I am going to cut the pipe to bring it up a bit also I drilled a hole just in case. My spray bar also seems 2 inches too short for how I want it so I guess its back to playing with it. Its my first time so its a few rounds of trying .
