Return line options

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
On our big tank, the LocLine return holes are on the other side of the overflow boxes. So the return line will
come up in the overflow boxes, but not come up and out back in through the top of the tank.

Here's a pic of the top of our 300 gallon tank. On the bottom left is the return pipe coming up through the overflow box and returning through the top of the tank. The other holes on the top of the tank are for poop sucker pipes and for FX-5 uptake and return.

If you have a male end of the locline, you could use a pvc connector you'll need to use a connector that's slip for the pvc and female end for loc-line. Assuming you have that.

Dn328/mom what size loc lines are you using on your tanks ?

Missing anything from the order ? Do you think the tool is needed or a elbow grease sufficient?

Can the loc line npt adapter fit directly to the nozzles ? If so i could use reduce drom 1 inch to 3/4 after the bulk head use 3/4 pvc elbow and tee in some extensions amd run the return further into the tank attach different size nozzles and skip the loc line modulare hose.

I wouldn't. Point is you can always shrink the size but u have to make a new larger bulkhead size.

Not following why would i need to make a bulkhead larger if im reducing from 1 inch ?

We will be using 3/4" (our tank is not set up yet) The tank builder sent the bulkheads and loc lines with the tank. When I ordered the tank, I only specified the size of the overflow boxes. To be honest, I didn't give any thought to the returns.

This is the 300 gal right ? 1 inch returns ? Are you going to reduce down to 1/2 or stick with 3/4 nozzles ?

My return pump outlet is 1.25". We bumped PVC to 1.5", connected to check valve, connected to tee both in the return and split to 3/4" hoses and finally 3/4 " loclines.

So yeah my returns are 3/4" ;-)

I didnt know any better when i started, but the tool seems helpful btw. It's a pita - my bro in law helping has a stronger grip and forearms lol

I'm doing a WC so here's a close up with no water of return. But as i say no set-up is ever the same, just reference.

Those loc-line tools are a joke. I have two brand new (I'm 0 for 2) that do not separate pieces. Flimsy plastic doesn't give it much leverage. Save the $20, trust me.

Thx for the pics much clearer. Im gonna mess around with a few ideas in my head but wanted to see what you thought about using a 3/4 elbow and two tees and using both 3/4 and 1/2 loclines on each return. 1/2 inch point towards substrat and the 3/4 at the surface.

Saw a vid and the guy was just bending them off so maybe i'll save the 20

If you really want one I have two on clearance!

I heat mine up in hot water on the stove for a few minutes. Not much heat needed. I think I use the low setting. That softens the plastic and the pieces snap together much easier. If that helps.
