It is not always necessary to replace the entire pump. Sometimes an impeller or volute can be replaced for a fraction of the cost of a pump. Just be sure the cavity the impeller sits in isn't ruined by a wobbly impeller.
with this pump, the impeller wobbled and etched a figure 8 in the housing, and the entire pump had to be replaced.
