So my dad spotted a 5' tank while out on a job and asked me to check it out with him. Turns out it is a 5'x1.5'x2'(LxWxH) acrylic tank with built-in overflow, and a 25gal. wet-dry sump.
The stand and hood need serious refinishing and it won't come with lights or a pump, but the couple is only asking $150 for everything. It may be filthy and suffering from more minor scratches than I will ever willingly count, but the price is sweet.
My dad has a breeding pair of discus and I think that the extra space + wet-dry sump will do wonders for their chances of raising healthy young.
Our only real problem (aside from my mother) is that we aren't sure what type of pump to use in the sump! We both have canister filters, HoB's and sponge filters. No sumps.
I understand that we'll want something that can pump water more than 4' up to reach the tank without loosing too much flow, but how many GPH? We're talking Discus fry here, not a fish that needs serious flow, but a relatively heavy polluter once they start growing.
Any recommendations on a brand or the specs we ought to look for?
