Return pumps

Not too concerned about pump noise. My sump will set under the tank in the stand. My stand will have the bottom of the tank setting at around 42 inches. I am building my own stand, as I have to patch the bottom of the tank. I am thinking of doing a plywood bottom, as I am not sure there is any way to safely patch the crack in the tank, plus that will allow me to adjust where I want to put my overflows and returns. Thanks for the quick replys.

Thanks for all the replys. I hadn't really thought about the energy ratings. I'm still in the planning stages of how I am going to set up the sump on this tank, and I have no issues with drilling the sump. That is how the sump for my 75 gallon is set up, but it is acryllic, and was already set up like that when I bought the tank. the 220 is drilled with a 1.5 inch hole and a 3/4 hole at the overflow, and two 1inch and 1 3/4 inch holes at the opposite end of the tank. I am still figuring out how I am going to run my overflow and returns in the tank, as well as getting the wet/dry sump set up. I also found a 75 gallon long oceanic for 25.00 that I am thinking of getting to use as my overflow, instead of the tank that I had planned on using. Keep the suggestions coming, and thanks for all the food for thought so far.

For the most part everyone is going to suggest the pumps they ar using because its what they trust and know. I use a jebao dct, moves water, low on energy and was cheap. But have only been using them for a year and change so not a long time. The real question is how long have we been using our pumps lol

I havent seen anyone say anything bad about the Laguna pumps they seem like they could stand up against the test of time

all good points. Now, as this conversation moves into a different direction, what type of pumps do you use, how long have you used them, and why do you like them? (Thanks jaws7777 for making me think of those things as well.)

I use two of the Jebao DCP 8000's. Here is a thread I made on them:

I do recommend that you run two smaller pumps as opposed to one larger one. This already saved me once because my power went out one day when I wasn't home and when it came back on one of my pump controllers errored out and didn't restart. However, the other did so my tank was still running half flow until I got home and restarted the second one again.

Did you unplug and plug back in? Just, curious if you figured why it stopped? I had that happen once to one of my DC pumps.

Oh, I'm running two DC pumps - for all the same reasons people use them. If not mention already above, most are quiet or quieter.
