Returning back to the Shark World with a new tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
It has internal built in overflow box. I have about 40lbs of pond matrix as my bio media that is cycling now to establish live bacteria (stability). I will not hookup the protein skimmer until some livestock goes in. I may hook another overflow up for extra filtering, but the total bio load on this tank is going to be pretty small. I do not plan to overstock it nor keep live corals(at the moment anyways). All water will be RO for changes/top off. I don't plan a top off tank either, but all this is subject to change haha. Once it is running further I may tweek things but the goal now is just to get it running.

Not much to see here hahaha local store had a couple rocks and fish they didn't want so I threw them in to start cycling. The rest of the live rock or to be cured rock coming next week. So there are two tomato clowns and a damsel fish.....maybe they will find hiding spots or become dinner eventually.

Also I am trying to decide what lights to get. I will hang them from the ceiling.

Ok guys so a quick update and question....

I have thrown in a few more pieces of live rock and another damsel....after two weeks they aren't even showing up on the ammonia scale etc due to the amount of water I assume. So I picked up one Miniatus Grouper (wanted a messy eater and hardy fish). Pic of him one I get him used to the tank and eating.

My questions is can a porcupine puffer be kept with sharks? I would love to have one, but never have mixed the two. I know we stay away from coral eating fish like trigger/angels etc but the porcupine doesn't have the same temperament nor beak of those fish.

DON'T DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLEASE!!!!!! I made that mistake and caught one I found 14 miles offshore while swordfishing. I thought it would be ok but he ate my favorite shark at the time (my cali horn) eye ball out, which later died!!!! I don't want to see someone suffer a loss like I did the way I did, so please, DON'T PUT ONE IN!!!!!! I thought the same as they aren't known to be evil, but I was wrong!!
